Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course.

Selection criteria

Domestic Students
The following Selection criteria requirements apply only to Domestic Students:

  • Entry into the mainstream program is via direct entry and it is recommended that you have:-
    • completed a Certificate IV in Business, or another relevant qualification, and/or that you have experience in a range of work environments in the business industry;
    • intermediate (Year 12 equivalent) literacy skills as study will involve a range of reading comprehension activities, report writing, and conducting and analysing research. Your written communication needs to be of a professional standard in presentation, structure, grammar, spelling and punctuation;
    • basic computer skills that enable you to access resources online, send and receive emails and use a range of MS Office programs; and
    • a range of study skills, self-motivation and reasonable independence to direct your study.
  • Entry into the accelerated program is via an application process and it recommended that you have at least 5 years' experience working in the areas of business or management, and have an understanding of issues relevant to medium to large organisations.

International Students
The following Selection criteria requirements apply only to International Students:

  • English Language Proficiency: Academic IELTS 5.5 (no individual band less than 5.0) or ISLPR 2+ on all skills or other - For a list of all English Language test accepted by TAFE Queensland International
  • Academic Requirements: Completion of Year 12 (or equivalent). Non school-leavers must have relevant work experience or qualification that indicates likely success of course completion. For more information on the international education achievement levels equivalent to Year 10 and 12.

Students should be a minimum of 18 years of age. Student visa applicants under the age of 18 will be accepted where they demonstrate that they will be accompanied by a parent, legal custodian or a suitable relative who is aged 21 or over. Resources required

It is recommended that you have access to a reliable internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online learning system Connect, and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash Player. This equipment and software is available for use at all TAFE Queensland locations.

You will be provided with a recommended reading list and/or required textbooks during orientation or at the start of each unit. The purchase of these resources may incur additional costs, or you may be able to borrow them from the TAFE Queensland library network.

You are also required to have access to a calculator, a laptop or tablet device, a USB and a headset including microphone.

Need to know

Online Study
When studying online it is strongly recommended students follow the preferred order of study and enrol in no more than two units per intake or the units required to complete a cluster/stage, unless otherwise advised. 

Face to Face - Virtual Business Simulation - Marketing Units only
The Virtual Business Simulation is only available for the the marketing units and costs approximately $50USD. The Virtual Business Simulation forms part of the student assessment for BSBMKG501 – Identify and evaluate marketing opportunities and BSBMKG502 – Establish and adjust the marketing mix. Further information will be provided. Please note: The Virtual Business Simulation is not a TAFE product.

Assessment Methods

Skill and knowledge assessments are an essential step in progressing through your course. You may be assessed in a number of ways while you are studying at TAFE Queensland, including observation, written assessment, questioning, portfolios, work samples, third-party feedback, and through recognition of prior learning.
